OK First off I will show you how to change the system volume for a mic on Vista. What you need to do is on the taskbar (bottom left) you will see a small speaker icon:


 

Now what you do is right click on the small icon then choose Recording devices:

 

 

There will now be a popup window. You will see a mic at the top with a little green tick in the left corner and on the right there will be a green bar that moves up and down as you talk. This is your active mic the one being used with your broadcasting software:

 

 

Now, double click on the active mic and you will see another pop up on which you will need to choose the levels tab as shown below. All you do is adjust the slider to suit, then hit ok on both pop ups and you're all set:

 

Now to change the volume of a mic on Xp, go to start, then control panel. Once you have opened control panel you want to click Sounds, Speech and Audio devices:



 

 

One the next window you want to choose Sounds and Audio devices as shown:

 

 

You should now see a pop up, Choose the Audio tab as shown. Then there will be a box title Sound recording. What you do is change the drop down to the correct mic then click the volume button as shown below:


 

 


There will be another pop up with a slider in it. Just move the slider up to increase the volume or move it down to decrease the volume. You can just close this popup and hit apply on the last window shown above. Press ok and you're all set:
